Common Dog Problems

Diagnosing and Treating Separation Anxiety

Dogs are highly social animals, domesticated for hundreds of years to live with humans. Some dogs are so bonded to their humans that they cannot live without them! These dogs have a distressing problem called Separation Anxiety.

Separation Anxiety is probably the most difficult behavioural problem a dog can develop. Separation Anxiety is a physiological panic response to your absence. Dogs with this condition become extremely distressed and panic when you leave or prepare to leave. The severity of the problem varies among individual dogs.

Unfortunately many dogs with this condition are surrendered or euthanized when owners are unable to cope with the associated behaviours of this condition.
