Our adult dog play group provides a safe environment where your dog can get the important socialisation he needs, in a controlled and friendly environment, supervised by behavioural dog trainers. Your dog will develop important social skills while having a great time and burning off some energy!

BOOKING INTO ADULT DOG PLAY GROUP

If you are a client of Urban Dog Training and meet the requirements above, you may attend anytime without booking a place. There is a $5.00 fee per dog per attendance. This is payable upon arrival and cannot be prepaid, due to adminstration constraints.

All adults attending are required to sign Urban Dog Training's ‘Assumption Of Risk And Waiver of Liability' document before entering Play Group.

DRESSING FOR ADULT DOG PLAY GROUP

For your comfort, health and safety it is important to dress appropriately for Adult Dog Play Group. You may be required to sit on the ground with your dog, allowing him/her the space between your legs as a ‘comfort zone’ – short skirts are not appropriate. Please wear clothing that you are comfortable in and do not mind getting dirty. Dogs will often tug at clothing, causing rips and tears etc. Please keep this in mind. In warmer weather you may like to wear sunscreen and a hat.

It is essential to wear enclosed, non-slip footwear for health and safety reasons. Attendees wearing open sandals and thongs will not be permitted entry.

WHAT TO BRING TO ADULT DOG PLAY GROUP

Please bring the following with you to Adult Dog Play Group:

  1. Your dog - must be wearing a buckle or clip collar
  2. Current vaccination certificate - see note below
  3. Poo Bags
  4. Training treats

Note: Please understand that we cannot allow your dog to join Play Group without sighting your current vaccination certificate. This is for the health and safety of all the dogs involved. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this.

All dogs attending must be de-sexed to be permitted into Adult Dog Play Group - no exceptions.

Please DO NOT bring any of the following:

  1. Your cat (you never know!)
  2. Any dog other than your dog - this includes other family dogs and friend's dogs
  3. Balls, Toys, Kongs etc
  4. Any dog that is injured, ill or suffering from an infectious disease
  5. Children under 18 years of age - unless you have another adult dedicated to their supervision and/or are happy for them to remain outside the fenced play area. Please remember that Urban Dog Training staff are required to supervise dogs not children!
  6. Any dog known to display aggression to humans or dogs
  7. Doggy clothing - this restricts your dog and can be snagged by a tooth during play

SUPERVISION OF YOUR DOG

The safety of the dogs is paramount to us, therefore:

  • You are responsible to supervise your dog's activities at all times. You must remain in close proximity to your dog. Each dog must have an adult (over 18 years of age) dedicated to their supervision.
  • You are legally responsible for your dog's behaviour at all times and for any injuries which may be caused by your dog.
  • Dogs that become overly excited/aroused, excessively rough in play, engage in bullying behaviour or show inappropriate behaviours should be interrupted immediately and/or taken for a "time out" outside of the play area.
  • You must always have your dog's leash in your possession. This ensures that dogs can be quickly secured and/or restrained in the event of a problem.
  • All dogs should be wearing a normal buckle or clip collar. No choke chains, prong collars, electric shock or citronella collars are permitted. Harnesses must be removed prior to play.
  • Urban Dog Training reserves the right to decline any dog's participation in play group, especially if their behaviour is anti-social. We aim for all dogs involved to have positive play experiences.

CHILDREN AT ADOLESCENT PLAY GROUP

At Urban Dog Training we are committed to child safety around dogs. In AdUlt Dog Play Group the dogs can be quite large and rambunctious, often causing injury to adults in attendance. Therefore, for Health & Safety reasons we cannot allow children into Adult Dog Play Group.

Children and teenagers under 18 years of age are not permitted inside the fenced area at Adult Dog Play Group.

There are benches, picnic tables and children's play equipment just outside the fenced areas where family members who don't meet age restrictions may ‘hang out' and enjoy watching the dogs play. Your children must be kept clear of the Urban Dog Training 'Shop' area and the gates leading into fields. If your children are young, it is advisable to bring along another adult to supervise them while you attend Play Group with your dog. All Urban Dog Training staff are required to supervise the play sessions and cannot supervise children.

Please understand that we cannot make exceptions to the above.

WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS

Adult Dog Play Group will not be held in inclement weather. Please check our website if you are unsure whether or not Adult Dog Play Group will be held. We will post a notice on this page in the event that Adult Dog Play Group needs to be cancelled due to weather.

Please do not telephone us to see if Adult Dog Play Group has been cancelled as we are often unable to take calls on a Sunday due to our training commitments.

BEHAVIOURAL QUESTIONS

At Urban Dog Training we are very bonded to our clients and will go to great lengths to assist them with their dogs. However, Adult Dog Play Group is not a good forum for answering complex behavioural questions. All instructors are required to actively supervise the dogs in Adult Dog Play Group and intervene when play gets rough. This is often a very difficult task that requires the full attention and alertness of the instructors present in order to avoid injury to the dogs and humans present. Therefore they cannot give you their full attention during play group.

AROUSAL LEVELS

Dogs frequently become highly aroused during play, making fights likely to break out. In order to negate the effect of this an Instructor will blow a whistle periodically during play. Upon hearing the whistle you are required to get your dog and have him/her remain with you until ALL dogs are secured and calm. If your dog is too highly aroused you should restrain him/her whenever necessary, regardless of the whistle.

TIME OUT

If your dog engages in anti-social or bullying behaviour you must ‘time out’ your dog outside the fenced play area. If your dog receives two ‘time outs’ in any session by an Urban Dog Training Instructor, on the next occasion please take your dog home for that day.
